International World Water Day on 22 March 2020
This year´s motto: "Water and climate protection"
In 1992, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to dedicate a day as World Water Day, following a proposal by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro. The first World Water Day was then observed on 22 March 1993. Ever since, it has been gaining in importance.
The objective of World Water Day is to focus attention on the globally important topic of water. Moreover, it offers opportunities to learn more about water-related topics, find inspiration, share this knowledge with others, and take action to make a difference. This is why every year, the UN invites its member states to commemorate World Water Day by organizing activities to raise public awareness of water.
GRANDER has been celebrating World Water Day by offering exciting water-related events and activities for many years, among them the ‘water raffle’ and the ‘water photo competition’ to select pictures for the following year’s GRANDER Water Calendar.
